Hence to assure all working fine you need the maximum possible preparation, the maximum possible strength - inside and outside.
If you go - like so many out on this planet - by the minimum quality needed to pass, the minimum quantity to pass, the minimum score to pass - then it is just a question of time until you fail or crash the first and may be last time in a life.
To do minimum means absolutely stingy and calculating how much laziness can make you survive and achieve a particular goal.
To always give maximum assures that whatever happens you always know for sure that you truly have done absolutely all possible on your side. If any particular job fails - hence it never can be your responsibility but the one of those others who also needed to fully participate and cooperate to achieve a common goal.
Weakness has no place on earth and in God's entire creation - why ? Because the dark side is strong - far stronger than 90 % of all mankind on earth. Hence the dark side of creation grabs hold on most and most resign from their efforts forward and upward. For a short while it appears to most to be easier just to follow all rules of life of our material world, pretending all is made by God and all serves to free us.
Ancient other culture where sometimes far more God or spiritual oriented than modern society - and as a result they offered tough but adequate options to grow truly strong. For example Shaolin Tradition in China offering training for very young boys. Such training in true Shaolin temples with true masters where directed to strengthen the spirit and learn absolute self discipline for years or even a full incarnation. But self discipline is nothing else but one of the several important key points of Yama and Niyama !! A person empty of self discipline will fail on any path. Self discipline truly mastered to absolute perfection will never again allow weakness in any and all situations - even in future reincarnations. Hence to spend - or better invest - one full lifetime for one such important aspect of being male man is well worth the result. Keeping in mind that all you learn is for the entire reminder of eternity.
Self discipline far beyond any imaginable limit was a major factor in my first 2 decades here on earth as well. It included martial arts training at home, without any outside teacher, it included running and walking any distance, mountain up or down, in any weather condition, it also included my walking and leaving my small 50cc motorcycle at home during the 4 years of apprenticeship 10 to 14 km one way. Getting up around 5 AM in summer and 4:30 in wintertime and returning home usually after midnight. The absolute only purpose i had in mind while doing all that during the 4 years is to never allow my ego or inner swine to play with me. My body was and is a vehicle to be trained to perform according to my true needs and goals - my - that means my innermost beings goals. Body never was me - body served my goals - hence body needs to be tuned, hardened, strong and fit.
Later in my early twenties i continued even far more intense my martial arts training - for a while full time with a part time job as a masseur at home to finance my full time training - full time usually included 6 hours daily - 1.5 hrs of judo, 1.5 hrs of karate and 1.5 hrs of aikido plus a long session of workout with weights. And at the end a session sauna to relax.
But what has martial art to do with spirituality ? That is an easy question to answer - i have never seen a true martial arts trainee ever being involved in any kind of fighting. The stronger you are - the more peaceful you are and the better you know how to gain freedom and maintain freedom - inside and outside.
If there is anything never to apply any mercy then it is ego. If you have mercy with your or other peoples ego - then you fail. If you want to achieve a goal in life - then you have to assure that you are fully prepared and have achieved maximum inner and outer strength to guarantee that failure never ever will be an option - for you nor for those around you or following you !
Much later - 1999 - we planned and made a stroll to Assisi. 600 km one from 25 km south of Munich to the world renown pilgrimage city of Assisi in Italy. 3 girls and one young man plus self. The goal was to arrive there before the first one had to return to work. Hence the goal was to arrive in time and to arrive for sure.
How did it all start with that stroll - the very very beginning was a God seeker from Lake Konstanz - near the German / Swiss border who asked me by email if i knew a meditation group near his place because his guru was in Assisi / Italy, some 500 or so km away from his home. That adult man was too lazy and too week and too stingy to travel by railway, bicycle, walking or whatever other means to his Guru ... so i offered him to walk with him to Assisi to bring him to his Guru. I offered it and of course i planned it and prepared it and we got soon our small group that really walked down to Italy. That one man never showed up and never emailed again.
The reason i called it stroll was simple - an average distance of some 25 km a day is what i made in addition to some 9 hrs of work, school, almost daily vocational training or evening classes AND in my last teenage years in addition to almost daily dancing until the last dance around midnight or way past midnight on Friday nights. Hence 25 km never can be full time work - in Africa in far remote areas of Zaire and also in Haiti / Caribbean - i have seen people walking far more to go working or to go on the market to sell their products they carry on their head.
We had no work after our daily stroll - we had nothing but rest, washing ourselves, our cloths and then sleep in a warm and comfortable sleeping bag in a dry tent while hundreds of millions still have to work after and before walking and have to do all their household and farm work.
So we advanced ... sunny days, rainy days, hot days, each day 2 of my hand spans on a 1:50'000 map - up or down or flat - never mind. There was a goal and there was no mercy - else we may never have made it.
One day our young man played sick - he puked after a meal and wanted rest. Because he puke more until all stomach was empty - still there was no time to wait ... we continued and he was left alone and behind.
The other day he caught up with us while we had our noon break.
The essence - never wait on anyone whatever his condition - go on day by day straight toward your goal - the one who wants to wait or needs a rest is the one to catch up on his very own. There is a goal and that goal needs to be achieved. There is a time frame all needs to be achieved successfully - the time is either a precise date or SOONEST possible.
We arrived in Assisi exactly on August 1st - the day Francis of Assisi asked God to be a day when all arriving that day in Assisi shall be forgiven all their sins and failures. And so it shall be.
What is the goal ? To rich God union - of course - what else !!! - but God union can only be achieved if you have practiced successfully to continue toward your goal in all and any and every circumstances of life. Life is like a track from Germany to Italy - it is cold or hot, wet or dry, stormy or sick, dark or lightening but whatever is you have to keep God in mind all the time.
Failure never is an option - it never was and never will be !!! all mortals are dying - hence we die anyway ... but there are 2 ways of dying - a mortal human usually dies more or less painfully or if lucky falls into coma, while a truly spiritual person dies fully consciously by immersing into an ocean of love and joyfully progresses toward oneness with my father very soon after he lost his body. The ocean of love is the ocean of love you have created yourself in your life as the sum of all action you did for all others - multiplied by all love God sends you on top of your self created ocean of love.
If you allow self pity to occur in your life - then it is time to kick your own ass and make sure your ego knows that there simply is zero chance for ego to exist within your body, zero place nor time for pity or weakness. That is a point where you have no time for nice medical words for your anatomy - that is the time to pulverize ego and weakness by growing stronger than ever before - repeatedly and for a long time - years, decades a lifetime and beyond in all various opportunities available in your life. To assure YOU know that you are strong enough to achieve any goal you ever want.
By the very end of our successful stroll it was very clear - all arrived and hence all those who can walk in 36 days 600 km in all and every possible weather condition also can walk around this planet or across any continent if truly needed to gain freedom. If you can do it 36 days then you also can do it 360 or 3600 days if needed !!!
I did other things of similar kind at various occasions in my life, just to assure my body still knows who is in charge and how to achieve goals. At the age of 39 - the year of my last divorce and he beginning of my happy time and my true spiritual awakening - i decided it was time for swimming again some distances. Hence a few short training sessions in a nearby lake and then the first time again 6 km on open lake - it was 16-17 degrees centigrade. The distance itself was easy - the temperature loss was ore difficult to overcome - it took me almost all night to re-warm my body. But to stop underway and return never was an option. My goal was to swim to an island in that lake and pick up a leaf from a tree and bring that leave back home. So i did and that year i crossed just for fun about any lake i was diving with my divers. Just for fun. If you know how to survive in water you can do it any time and any distance - if you really need. Its all a question of your mind. Your mind has to belief it - but how can your mind belief it ? By having done it - several times, many times, many different things, crazy things, wild things, anything you want or have the occasion to do. Then you have done all that is available and you know you can do it - that is your mind - your memory of failure or success. If you never allow failure to occur then your mind knows there is but success.
One day in the Republic of Maledives in 1980 or so - one of my diving students - the very most difficult i ever had in my entire professional diving instructor career - panicked on a dive to 21 meter and surface under my direct physical control to the surface. Total panic. After a minute or two of calming and reassuring talk we re-descended to the same depth and continued our lesson to finish that training dive with the usual fun dive part after successful completion of all exercises.
No matter how many times a preparatory attempt may fail - you always have to end with success to assure your ego and brain and body and mind - ALL your being knows that you always end with success.
Later that girl became for some 10 years my wife and she made very successfully her SCUBA instructor exam in a foreign language - 2nd best of her class. She had severe problems in the water when she started and for a long while - because she has VERY severe problems with God and love and even more problems in accepting advice and a teacher. All success is the result of proper preparation, strict guidance on the right path and full efforts and full motivation to really make it.
During my 10+ years as a diving professional I trained many divers - and several became instructor. They planned to become and the training and education was accordingly - always the maximum possible, the highest possible standard of safety consciousness, fun and quality. One day one of the American soldiers i trained in recreational SCUBA diving during my contract with AFRC Chiemsee called me from near Chicago - near the Great Lakes and told me that now while still in the US military he is already working as a part time instructor for a local dive shop and that his professional instructor exam was very easy to pass. He was happy and i was happy because i knew that he will be a happy, safe and excellent diving professional when out of service.
When you go through all the possible training and proper preparation - then your instructor is sending you into your final exam and there is but one single final test to be done once in a life time. Because when you die you have but one chance - to pass all exams offered - to solve and dissolve all in love - in nothing but love and you never know what will be presented to you - but your instructor has prepared you to go from heaven through hell and back with a smile on your face and love in your heart. Prepared to face devil and dance lambada with devil - smiling and loving.
Failure is never an option - neither in life nor in your death - but God and love is our only option - now or later - God and love is your only choice and your only goal - while your ego may well be of totally opposite opinion and may well prefer to rest a while, get a drink, a vacation or to play suffering ill and pain - your soul starves for love and God and your eternal partner as well. And others are waiting on you - some of them may well be waiting for you to success since millions of years.
Now you have a chance - later as well - we do it now !
Later may be too late - and - to do things later is stingy !!!
God and love is the only option i offer you ...
Because HERE is hell - later you will truly understand the truth of this - HERE is hell and never there - somewhere down - here is one of very darkest spheres in God's entire creation - you doubt ?? then go out into this world - visit some of the places i have visited - with fully open senses, open eyes, open ears, open heart ... see, hear, feel, look and know and then you know why i kick butts to wake all up from their day dreaming down here. It's time to go home.
Here is but cruelty, suffering, cheating, lying, using and abusing, killing or dying ... on all levels. Here is a place to be strong or to die - to love or to die. A place to be fully focused on love or to be a victim of all material temptations, distractions and dark forces. HERE is the place to truly grow strong in your heart - because it is your love and only love that will truly free you out of any and every situation here on earth.
