For all those ever having enjoyed an Acer TravelMate 6000 know how complicated the replacement of keyboard or extension of RAM was. Myself after that above experience - I was cautious when I got my Ferrari 4005WLMi ( Ferrari 4000 series ) ... Prepared for the worst. By the time I received my foreign language keyboard - de-CH - I asked my dealer if he knew how to replace the keyboard. He called Acer Philippines and no one could give us precise instructions how to change the keyboard. A repeated search in Google weeks ago resulted without any results at all - including the acer support site.
My Acer dealer agreed / recommended what I suggested. I went to the Acer service center in Manila Paco to have the keyboard changed on my Ferrari 4005WLMi. In earlier occasions the Acer service center proved to be perfect in service beyond doubt. The friendly and highly qualified service technician ( from my last experience ) did the job right at the counter in minutes. I asked the technician to do it slowly to allow some picture taking for this howto I planned to publish for any future reference for other Acer dealers or other Acer Ferrari 4000 users out there.

Please - if EVER driving to Acer service center Manila Paco - give the taxi driver your cellphone and have him call the service center for a detailed explanation how to get to the Acer service center. Despite the clear address on 2 earlier occasion 2 different taxi drivers managed to get lost both in the very same and totally wrong location in Manila!
If it wouldn't be for the warranty seal - it certainly now is very easy to do. I once had a warranty case with my earlier Acer TM 6000 and needed a new motherboard - received within 1 working day free of charge under warranty - hence I knew how valuable a warranty seal could be in extreme cases of an entire motherboard needing replacement!
So here we go:
The entire operation to replace built in Laptop keyboard takes but a few minutes and requires one small screwdriver plus one small philips screw driver.
To replace or touch RAM units - YOU should be grounded FIRST. Touch a grounded metal or metal water pipe to discharge any electrostatic load you may have when living in artificial environment such as carpets or PVC floor!
At the bottom of of your Ferrari 4000 - in the center - you have the cover for the RAM slot. Both RAM units are there easily accessible. To open the RAM slot - unscrew the screw 1 and 2 then replace the RAM as usual.
Simply follow below step by step instructions. To replace the Ferrari 4000 series keyboard is easy.
Put your Ferrari laptop on a soft surface and turn Ferrari upside down. Unscrew the screw No 3 until loose. Note that the screw is secured to stay inside even when loose. Then turn your laptop again upside up.

Turn your laptop again upside up. Unlatch the keyboard on the left side as shown with a small screwdriver gently at the location shown in the picture. You will see a small slot for the screwdriver.

Now unlatch the keyboard on the right side where shown on the picture as before with your screw driver

Now gently remove the keyboard as shown and hold it back to have free access to the cable still connected.

Unlatch the cable safety on the left side using your small screwdriver

Now unlatch the right side of the cable safety

Before I had already an Acer TM 6003. Now my best ever choice and fastest machine ever - the Ferrari 4005WLMi. The fastest laptop also should be running with the best Operating System - hence since 1998 I run SuSE Linux on my machines. SuSE Linux fully supports the 64 bit architecture of the Ferrari. This really is the best and most pleasant laptop to work with. In addition Acer seems to be the only Laptop manufacturer in the Philippines offering an outstanding service. When working full time with a tool like my Ferrari - things eventually can go wrong and if so I depend on a fast and professional repair service. As before I got the Ferrari from my preferred Acer dealer PC4ME in San Fernando La Union.
