By the end of this howto - all done step by step - you should have your own first fully validated and registered RSS2.0 feed online. The creation part is rather quick and easy - the registration part with all below listed RSS directories may take a few hours but is well worth the efforts. Therefore if you are serious about creating your own first RSS feed - run thru all below steps - take your time - open end - half a day or so including all registration with RSS directories. Why so much time ? Many of the RSS directories require you to create a FREE user account first. If you want to succeed - then do it right from the very beginning. It took me many dozen hours to write this RSS howto and dozens of annual hours to maintain it up to date - hence your very own site and success should be worth at least as much to you as it is to me - right ?
Why I do this RSS howto? Many years ago when i started to look into RSS feeds there was NO howto, no precise documentation, I had to do all from scratch - to study and search and try for weeks again and again. Then once done, it all appeared easy and simple to me - hence I decided to share my efforts' resulting experience with RSS feeds - my own success of my currently 5 feeds is very substantial ... one of the best time investment ever done on my site.

Earlier I had here a link to Perl module to create an RSS feed instantly online - however the perl modules involved are far behind development of RSS standards and for RSS1.0 only - the most state of the art RSS editor including all fields and configuration options of modern RSS2.0 feeds is the Firefox extension RSS editor. I strongly encourage to use this fine tool to start with. Avoid old RSS1.0 feeds and start with RSS2.0 feeds - it will open the doors to more RSS directories and more features needed for attractive RSS feeds!
We use Firefox browser extensions "RSS editor" - As a progressive and modern Internet user - you most likely have already Firefox installed - else you may want to install firefox right now before continuing. Remember - the purpose of this howto RSS is to create your own first top quality RSS2.0 feed. Now we install Firefox extension "RSS editor". Restart your Firefox to make your "RSS editor" available - after restart Firefox - to start your "RSS editor" go Firefox menu tools - RSS Editor and open any of the options offered to start editing your first RSS2.0 feed.
An easy way to learn always is to see a final validated and working example - here a short example RSS2.0 feed created with Firefox "RSS editor" as your visual reference to know where to enter what data.

you may also need to add the following line to your .htaccess -- your server needs to know how to serve RSS
AddType application/rss+xml .rss
then validate !!! your .rss page - p l e a s e .. VALIDATE your RSS news feed or you may see many RSS Newsfeed search engines rejecting your feed - and even worse you will see RSS News reader refusing to DISPLAY your RSS news feed and instead showing only the SOURCE !

1 EASY way
Mozilla Firefox Browser + RSS Reader Panel - ( for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux )
First download and install the newest Firefox browser
If you have your Firefox browser already - directly Download/install the "Wizz RSS News Reader" for Firefox - restart your Firefox to enable the new RSS reader. To add new RSS feeds: just drag and drop RSS feed-URL into the sidebar panel of your Wizz RSS News Reader.
There are more choices available to read RSS feeds - for Mozilla, Firefox or Thunderbird then search for RSS reader or just search the web using major search engines or search in your preferred browser's home page for add-ons or plugins RSS reader for your browser.
For myself with my Firefox browser working full time as a web publisher since 1997, I prefer always the best of all, my choice is the "Wizz RSS News Reader" for Firefox - available for all platforms
IN firefox - toolbar ( on top of your browser ) select:

one simple method for YOUR created RSS is the use of a simple perl script to allow easy SSI of your RSS feed

Download xmlnews.cgi - a perl script to parse RSS Newsfeed and create SSI from your RSS news feed
it's VERY easy install - and done in minutes !
adapt the "CONFIGURATION SECTION " to your needs and URL of the script ..
after install - OF COURSE chmod 755 to the script !!
SSI --- you may have to assure your page is SSI enabled on the server
usually pages ending .shtm or .shtml are

Similar to the Javascript - zFeeder allows you to insert RSS Newsfeed of any source into your own pages. Easy to set up - but of course you need PHP support on your server.

hence i decided to write THIS howto to save you days of searching and surfing and trying.
With all the steps above - including submission of all - it may take you as little as 2-4 hrs for ALL work, configuration, download, upload, validation, bug fixes if any, submission and testing.
Renewal of texts is simple and easy - no need to get complex software for that for the beginning. You can EASILY update all RSS news feed in your conventional editor you are using for professional web design.
later you can change and improve as your progress and succeed and may want to expand and venture into this new field of data and news sharing.
VALIDATE your RSS News feed - i have seen plenty of reputable sites having NON-validated RSS feed displaying ONLY page source in reader !! Its a simple step and you get used to the fact that their are a few symbols and special characters which may have to be avoided when writing RSS news feed pages.
Within less than an hours after your submission to all above RSS News feed search engines and RSS news feed directories you may see already one or several RSS News feed bots crawling your site.
Be aware that RSS news feeds is for NEWS - for updates - fro FRESH info .. hence some of the RSS news feed bots will revisit your RSS news feed several times PER HOUR !!
Some extended beginners knowledge may be needed later on and you may start step by step to study your self into the topic by beginning with the standards and specifications:
