A web-publisher's goal - to achieve goals you need to have goals - you need to set goals - then you need to work as hard as needed to achieve these goals
Without a goal you never can achieve a goal. Hence as a Web publisher you need to set a goal - a target amount of $ that lets you live and work and success and progress peacefully and comfortably.
How much you need fo be comfortable in your life and work depends on your overhead expenses - on what exactly you do to publish about and where you do your work and living as well. Obviously all the cost of living and necessary logistics are the determining factor - your life style and dreams you want to fulfill is another determining factor for your total cost of living that sets the target amount you need to earn to be happy.
To be successful - start simple and small - stay free of debts at all times !
Start without additional equipment - use what you have - start with a free webspace project to see if you have anything at all to publish and if you get any decent traffic at all. May be you start and realize that there is far more work hidden behind a good looking web page than you are ready to perform.
Grow steadily by producing steadily new unique content - if possible on a daily basis
The easiest way to become a web publisher without any pressure to perform is to start your web project first as a side-line to your current full time job. A full-time job that pays for all the initial expenses, travel where needed, HW/SW and that also allows you to make valuable experiences worth to be published. Publishing your professional experiences and experiences in life to have a happier life and more successful life certainly helps others most and may be most attractive to the world.
The revenue from a web site depends on traffic and topic of web site
Traffic however depends largely on your SEO - Search Engine Optimization - in clear language SEO means that you use proper procedures, clean code, good page layout, nice colors, all meta-tags properly configured for each individual page. Search engine friendly folder-names and file-names resulting in search engine friendly URLs. The finally result is that all minor and major search engines can crawl, find and index every single page of your entire website4's public documents.
Hence fancy stuff like javascript links or java links, etc either need to be fully HTML-link compatible or replaced by clean HTML links to make the entire content of your web site accessible by all bots, browsers and mobile devices alike.
Pages need to have H1 and H2 titles and be properly structured and if available links to relevant previous articles on your site or on other reputable web sites are added for additional increase in surfing experience by your site visitors.
The more popular content you have - the greater your generic traffic will be
To expect hundreds or even thousands of site visitors to appear on your site with only a few dozen pages would be an illusion. so how many pages mixed topics you need for a given number of site-visitors or pageviews ?
I give you a real life example and you can set that as a goal to reach. whatever I reached YOU can reach as well - except that you should be able to reach that same goal faster, easier and more enjoyable than I did.
Why?
Because when I started there was no one to teach me, no one to help me, no one to ask anything. Hence I was all alone - God and me - learning web publisher to assist my work as a spiritual teacher to publish the teachings of love to all world.
Now we have thousands of tutorials, excellent howtos and people with years of real life experience willing to share absolutely all with you to ease your own success.
My blog for example has some 2000 pageviews per day and some 700 posts these days ( some have been deleted, hence the file number in the URL of my blog articles is larger than the actual existing number of blog files/blog articles.
The entire Cyberspace Ashram has many thousand pages and currently some 11'000+ unique visitors per day. each day visitors from some 130+ countries - each months from some 200+ countries.
Here again the ratio of number of unique pages to unique visitors is comparable with the blog ratio. Hence you can calculate that for every page you create in an attractive and fully search engine optimized way will attract some 3 visitors per day.
So to have a goal for your web publishing - you cold easily take above numbers from my blog as your goal that has been achieved by real person in real world - hence the very same also can be achieved by YOU!!
If your goal drifts off target during the course of your business year - work harder to get back on target again!
Early year is a good time to set goals -realistic but high goals - goals you really have to work or struggle to achieve. Only when you set high but realistic goals will you grow stronger. If your goals are too low, too easy - you will remain average and weak.
Usually I set high goals - sometimes I get distracted for a few weeks from my goals - or at least slowed down by events or visitors - just in time to realize that I have never in my life missed a single goal and I simply increase all my efforts, investments in time, resources, $ and love to reach the goal in time. all the previous year my annual goal usually was reached by November - and December was an added gift in increase of performance. Christmas time is a time of gifts !
You can set a goal of 30-60 pages or articles to be published each day in the average of each months - and that makes you 360-720 pages in one year resulting in 1000-2000 pageviews per day if your topics are exciting. some pages will result in many hundred pageviews each day - other articles may be valid for a few months only and then become history ... keep on producing useful and helpful content and forget about what keywords pay how much.
When setting goals - look what sportsmen do - they look at a number, a speed, a time, a height to exceed and then they train, work, live and sweat until they have reached their et goals.
Be useful to others and help others by your articles to get their lives more happy and better organized and you always will receive whatever reward you need to continue your fine work.
God bless
hans
