Typical prices of city hotels are provincial - i.e. far lower than in Manila, Angeles or Baguio. Quality and comfort of course also are at provincial level. Prices for simple fan room with common bath/CR may start at about 250 PHP, aircon rooms with TV and private bath/hot water at about 500 PHP. Luxury hotels with room rates above 1500 PHP that offerr WiFi appear to have only airborne wifi - i.e. 100 PHP per hour extra 0 2400 PHP per day continuous wifi connection ...

Getting to Legazpi

Best transportation from Manila is by air - best deals are usually Cebu Pacific airline with 2 daily flight. Flight time is only 55 Minutes and the airfare is barely more than a bus fare. Buses are abundant from various bus terminals in Manila - bus travel is approximately 15 or more hours.

Legazpi city

Legazpi city is like other cities - dirty! There is absolutely no attraction in Legazpi city at all and no reason to come to Legazpi city. Legazpi is arrival and departure city - hence only transfer but no destination on its own! Legazpi is a dirty, poorly maintained and most boring city for any kind of life style. With some 200'000 people, Legazpi - also spelled Legaspi - is spread over a large area, has a few huge malls with almost no customers, lots of businesses with almost no customers and a very few or no tourists. Despite the fact that there is offshore oil and a small oil industry in Legazpi city - there is no sign that any of the oil-money reaches the regular population or improves quality of life of the city. The only reason to stay a day or two in the city might be a visit of the Mt Mayon volcano or the Cagsawa ruins. Both together could easily be done in a single day or maximum 2 days.

Legazpi city - Internet access for traveling business men

There are several cheap internet cafes in Legazpi city - and at least one well organized free Wi-Fi hotspot in an excellent Italian cafe.

Beyond Legazpi city - Albay province near Legazpi

The real beauty starts as soon as you are several kilometers out of the city boundaries. Real Bicol beauty everywhere. Beautiful nature sceneries, beautiful hills and mountains, creeks, waterfalls and if you love black sand - then you find near virgin black sand beaches all along the Pacific ocean coast of Albay province - specially north bound starting from Sto Domingo up north with a few smaller beach resorts every now and then.

If I should describe in a simple single sentence Bicol region including Albay province - then it would be like:

Bicol is a blossoming region of flowers, most beautiful lush tropical nature and a hard working, most loving people

So far Bicol is the single most beautiful region experienced in 7 years of traveling guest of the Philippine islands. Stay away from large villages and cities and you'll experience a beautiful paradise like nature of true tropical vegetation.
