While all information is current and from these past weeks and months - an island is a living being, all changes, all improves, new places appear and old places disappear ... and sometimes an excellent place disappears as well because its owner or operator returns home to God or retires to prepare for such divine experience we all face one day by the end of our days on this beautiful planet earth.
One of Boracay's best - is Boracay islands manifold beauty - beautiful flowers, tropical butterflies, exotic tropical sceneries, many hidden white beaches and above all an island is only an island when surrounded by ocean. The ocean surrounding Boracay island is of outstanding clarity, purity and beautiful blue warm water year round. Boracay is ideal for honeymoon or to refresh your honeymoon to turn it into an eternal love romance between you and your loved one.
All in all I was working more than 6 months on this best of Boracay page - hundreds of pictures here and there, many walks around the island and many happy hours with my friends and visitors here during the past 3 or so years that I spend several times a year a few weeks on this beautiful tropical island. Hence one day I thought that some of the very special places - often very small family business or small tourist attraction hidden in remote corners of the island deserve some special recognition for excellency in work, services or products.
It is such fine and exceptional places that make life worthwhile and an enjoyable experience. Average places we have all over the planet. Average places are forgotten within days or weeks. Exceptional places however we often remember a full life time and beyond. Now in the middle of the blossom of my life - at 50+ - I still remember all the exceptional places I experienced back to my teenage years.
If one day on Boracay you have no idea where to go or what to do - then it may be time to find these pages and to visit some or all of these exceptional places while they still exist and blossom in the beauty of excellency in service or product.

New businesses come and old businesses disappear on Boracay island every few weeks - While I attempt to keep this information as current as possible, you may always find changes to occur now and then.
This Boracay's best of - list is the result of many visits to Boracay island since 2003. All recommendations are based on direct experience and recommendations by regular guests of this beautiful tropical island. Boracay has many beautiful restaurants to dine out, to have a snack or drink ... and of course many exciting sightseeing places worth to be visited. Specially if you are here for a brief vacation only, you may want to fully enjoy each day and pick a few of Boracay's best spots. Some of Boracay's best places are hidden and known by insiders, experts living here or when stumbling upon.
Boracay has some of Philippines finest gourmet restaurants. However some restaurants are specialized in particular food only. I have a "breakfast place", a pizza place, another place for sweets or cakes, etc.
Please keep in mind that some of the delicious dishes may only be available during certain seasons - specially during high season. Many fruits or vegetables are "imported" from other Philippine islands by sea or by air or a combination of both, strawberry and much of the vegetable or herbs come from Baguio City. Other food comes from other, often remote islands. The availability of many exotic ingredients and dishes thus may vary from month to month.

The only way to get listed here is by outstanding quality resulting in a island wide reputation of excellency among gourmands, local experts and tourists. If you are outstanding in excellent quality - I may eventually find you without you knowing me. To test a place I am but a regular anonymous guest - one of many. I prefer family business with the owner physically working in the business - by experience this guarantees a lasting high quality over years and decades. With many decades of international traveling - I select but the truly best.
Above map shows Boracay island with its North direction, the main orientation points are: Numbers 1-4 are Boat stations 1, 2, 3 and 4 - Letters D = D'Mall, B = Butterfly Garden, R = Red Pirates very near the southern end of the beach walk. During rainy season boats usually arrive at boat station 4 and during sunny season at boat station 1-3. Most boats arrive at station 3.

Red Pirates - When you want bread - you go to a baker, when you want flowers - you go to a florist ... and when you want to enjoy some sailing, you go to the Red Pirates. Located near the southern end of Boracay's Beach walk, you find the Red Pirate bar open from early morning till way past midnight for a drink at low prices. The interesting setup reminds you that you are a guest of Pirates ... except that these pirates usually smile more than average smiling Philippinos!
Joey is the Red Pirates Captain - enjoy Joey's Boracay sailing experience since 1988.
A sailing trip with the Red Pirates sailboat always is a worthy adventure. Sun set sailing, sailing around Boracay island or a sail tour with barbecue on a beach ... the surprise is the excellent food of the Red Pirates offered during BBQ sail excursions. A few days ago I had a cappuccino and cake at Cafe del Sol ... just out of curiosity I asked a tourist on next table: "What is your preferred food place in Boracay" to my surprise he replied "the Red Pirates" he went twice on a sail excursion with BBQ and both times found this to be Boracay's best food. Hence you may as well give it a try and combine a sail trip around the island with a BBQ on a remote beach with the Red Pirates special Pirate menu ...

Mango Ray - Best overall gourmet food for international cuisine

Restaurant Mango Ray is since years my preferred restaurant to eat out for any kind of international or European gourmet food such as Swiss Rösti, Raclette, Fondue, Mexican Taco and many other delicious dishes. During winter-season - Mango Ray has the best fresh strawberry shake in the Philippines with fresh strawberries from Baguio City - how delicious is the strawberry shake ? The second time I ordered 3 strawberry shakes just for my. Large ones !!
Tip:
Try the daily specials - usually a fine composed setting of starter, main course and desert.
There are 2 outstanding Italian restaurants of equal excellence - both a little different and both unique and delicious. Hence Both are best of Boracay's Italian restaurants.

There are minor differences between Aria and Da Mario - for example:
Many prefer thin crispy Pizza - others like myself prefer a richer topping layer. Da Mario definitely has one of the top location for a cozy dinner with friends or a dinner for two.
Da Mario has more spicy food if you wish so and order "arrabiata" - spicy.

Cafe del Sol has always changing house made fresh cakes and tarts depending on season. Many delicious fruit cakes or fruit tarts such as the above shown strawberry cheese cake. A cup of good coffee or cappuccino. An ideal place after dinner or just for a little gourmet pleasure in-between meals.

English Bakery is a typical breakfast place open from early morning until about 1700 hrs. A wide variety of fresh sandwiches, omelettes, fresh fruit muesli made of fresh fruits with or without house made yoghurt as you like. You also find a variety of house made cakes, muffins, bread, etc. My preferred choice is the fresh fruit muesli with fresh yoghurt! A bowl with lots of fresh topical fruits, cereal and house made yoghurt.
The butterfly garden has been destroyed on last Taifun hitting Boracay and it is unknown yet if the owners want to restart the butterfly garden as of this update writing.
The second butterfly garden on the Golf club property however is absolutely no match at all to the once lovingly cared private butterfly garden here below!

Watch and enjoy the wonder of exotic life - from butterfly egg to caterpillar to an angel like butterfly. One day a fat caterpillar like in the photo above left - and a few weeks later a beautiful butterfly. Please note that the butterfly on the right is from a different caterpillar than the one shown above.
Butterflies can be touched sometimes if you are sweet or offer them sweets like honey, nectar or certain fresh sweet fruits - enjoy and have fun. I love the Butterfly Garden and visit the butterflies regularly. Each visit there are other butterflies to watch and other experiences to share.
Butterflies and humans have much in common - first we eat or kill each other, then we sit quiet and meditate about our past deeds, then we realize what we have done and become Saints like angels ! Made by God - made to the image of God.

If you take your time to walk around the island, you will see many nice, friendly and cozy places to eat out. Some of the smaller restaurants come and go year after year. If you feel attracted by one of this small restaurant - go and try. Enjoy your meal.
Since 2003 many times I chose Mabini's Place - it's certainly Boracay's best native resort - all huts nipa huts - real Philippine style of living. You find Mabini's Place south of station 3 about 300 meter south after the end of the beach road, hence after Da Mario's Italian restaurant. You have to walk on the beach or ask your way to Mabini's Place after Da Mario. Geolocation - on Boracay island: |

Most know all the large resorts and reputable hotels - but Boracay has many hidden small family resorts or family hotels in side roads. Often very clean and cheaper than the larger hotels.
My tip:
If you plan to stay several weeks - chose any place for the first few days. Walk around the island and look for some of these small idyllic hidden resorts and hotels - ask, look, then book and change to your final choice.

South of boat station 3 you find many small and clean resorts and hotels of various type or style - certainly also some nice accommodation for your taste. Southern part of white beach is more quiet and has many smaller nice places to enjoy a more peaceful, relaxing vacation. After all - we are on an island and if you want to go any other place of the island, it's all within walking distance.
