About 6 week after my previous Boracay photos from early August 2006 - I am back on Boracay island to see ongoing repair work in many damaged sections of the famous Boracay white beach. The damaged beach road has been refilled with sand - also many of the washed out areas of the beach have been artificially refilled with sand and sand bags to make all appear almost as usual.
About 50-70 cm of sand is missing in most areas of white beach. Beach that much below normal level means the water is coming much closer to the beach than usual and the useful beach stretch is getting quiet narrow during high water.

Above picture near high tide shows how narrow the once wide and large beach has become
Many of the exposed palms have become victim and are lost. Other palms with roots still exposed are partially covered by sand in some areas - while other owners care less and leave the palms with naked roots ...

The owner of the right side property has covered all coconut palm tree roots for protection from further damage by sun and water - while on the left side all roots still are fully exposed since weeks and may endanger the palm trees.

Since my last visit in August 10 2006 many palm trees have become victim of the raising water - or sinking beach - however you look at the situation. This alarming situation has lead some owners to cover and protect remaining exposed palm-roots.

During low low tide the white beach still is beautiful - however on the picture far left you can see how far up high tide water is coming . the line with debris on the far left shows the waterline during daily high tide.
The only reason why we have no further damage these days is the beautiful weather and calm sea. Since my arrival on September 19 on Boracay island, we have beautiful sun shine and near flat ocean day and night. Wind is weak - around Bft 1-2 most of the time. Hence during flat ocean and shallow waves the ocean is carrying some sand back to shore. While high waves would carry more sand away from Boracay's famous white beach. Hence the beautiful weather is currently protecting white beach from further damage and allows local population and business owners to repair and recover from past months damage to the major capital the beach.

Photos above and below:
The beach road in many areas washed away by wave action has bee artificially refilled in all areas along the southern part of Boracay white beach. Thousands of sand bags have bee used to artificially refill and repair the washed away beach road as well as to refill the root areas of some exposed palm trees.
