In recent times I had 2 encounters about butterfly hunter a kids job. Much earlier an owner of a beautiful and well maintained private butterfly garden explained that some of the exclusive butterflies he breads in keeps in his butterfly garden are brought by kids. The funny part of that story was that the kids apparently did the butterfly catching during school time ... instead of going to school ...
Kids love to have fun and kids also love to have their own jobs if they get exciting job offers. Butterfly catching may be one such adventurous job very specially for children - even young children below age 10. Butterfly hunter is a safe and simple job - but requires stamina to run after the butterflies if needed. Butterfly hunter is an adventurous job that requires skills in nature, children love to be in wild nature and hence butterfly catching is an ideal job for children.
My last encounter shows the group of kids waiting for Boracay's butterfly garden at the golf course to open. In the cache the kids have some 100 butterflies - all common types - easy to find and easy to catch. When asked about how much they get for their today's catch .. 100 PHP - about 2,5 US$. In a country where most adults in provincial areas earn as little as a dollar per day and maximum 5-7 $ per day - that amount of 100 PHP seems quiet reasonable.
Kids jobs gives children an opportunity to be useful while doing something fun and at the same time earning their own pocket money. Children jobs of this kind like butterfly hunter are freelance jobs - meaning kids are their own boss, kids work when they want and how they love to work as long as the kids deliver the butterflies in sufficient quantity and quality at the right time.
The first encounter with butterfly hunter kids was of different nature. The owner of the first butterfly garden preferred to get rare species of butterflies and paid up to nearly 3 US$ per rare specie. Hence his "kids" brought a few butterflies only but got much more money for the quality of butterflies they supplied. That first butterfly farm was breading their own butterflies and was looking for new rare species only to enlarge the number of different species in their butterfly garden.
Hence different situations leading to totally different income opportunities. In the case of the kids shown in the photos here, these kids earn by supplying quantities of common butterflies to the butterfly garden because this butterfly garden has no one to care and bread their own butterflies - while the other butterfly garden had a loving family to care for all butterflies and was looking for quality only ... with the advantage of offering much higher prices per piece.
