As you may know - as a web publisher since 1997 i have a lot to do with and about computers, even when traveling and while staying here in the Philippines. Hence anything around my laptop - presently an Acer 6003 LCi, needs to be maintained, repaired and supplied with all the accessories i need for efficient work.
In a country like the Philippines - home of several major manufacturers - i thought to have easy access to all my limited needs. Wrong. 2002 I had a Toshiba - made in the Philippines - burnt to death because of overheating due to fully insufficient cooling system and undersized power supply as well. I searched and search for months, the web and yellow pages and found nothing - even Google had nothing about a service center for laptops. Much later - summer 2003 - i found - "hidden" in a huge noble office building in Makati city the "Toshiba service center" - huge in size - and 60 to 90 days waiting even for such simple things like an external power supply.
The possible price for the repair was in the range of a new laptop - hence ..
i physically dumped my Toshiba into the ocean between Batangas and Sabang beach - and promised myself to end my "marriage" with Toshiba. My next one I received as incentive for my work was ... again a Toshiba .... For a while, then i searched replacement before this one - heating up even more than my last one - became a victim of tropical climate.
After long and intense study of the Philippine laptop market, some comparison on various web sites in USA and Europe - comparing prices, features and availability but first of all reputation of the manufacturer with an outstanding record in quality and reliability ...
I ended up with the first choice - my present Acer TravelMate 6000LCi, with centrino wireless technology, LOW power consumption and VERY low heat production - and as a place to purchase - after all the searching and comparing, including Hong Kong market and low price US market - taking into account possible import taxes and transportation via UPS or FedEx - the best of all available solutions or suppliers was ...
One shop for all - computers, laptops, accessories, software and repair - and all embedded in quality service, friendly and efficient ... hard to find in the Philippines - at pc4me i got it !!
pc4me in San Fernando La Union - just some 5 km away from one of my many places places i use to stay on a regular basis. Having heard good news about their reliability as well as their honest prices - a friend just got a brand new Acer TravelMate laptop a few months before me - and another friend was happy customer of pc4me since a few years already - I remembered that a year of so ago I once got a custom made LAN cable for approx 1.5 US $ ... @ pc4me ...
"May be i should go there in person talk and ask with the boss there" - i thought for a while - then went and all models were sold out, even at Acer Philippines. Next model available again in some 3 weeks - by the end of May 2004. the year after - in October 2005 I got another laptop from pc4me - this time an Acer Ferrari 4006WLMi

I had more time, studied other sources and suppliers in Manila and Kalapan ( Mindoro island ) and compared more models again trough the web and Google and found that pc4me had the only real best package. Price-wise as well as friendliness and all other factors. I emailed - ordered my preferred choice, got instant answers within hours, several eMails back and forth and got again one of the last 2 pcs left for the Philippine market. Edgee - the owner of pc4me reserved one of the last 2 with Acer and got them within a few days. All arranged by eMail from Mindoro island after my first personal visit in their shop - because by the time i ordered i was in Mindoro - Puerto Galera - some 400+ kms away from San Fernando La Union.
I traveled from Puerto Galera by ferry boat and bus to San Fernando La Union - just to get my Acer laptop TravelMate 6003 LCi @ pc4me stayed a few days in La Union to get it all running and configured ( of course i run SuSE Professional Linux for my work - no chance for any other operating system !! ) and returned a few days later back to Sabang / Puerto Galera to work with my new laptop.
In the picture above you see - pc4me - hidden in a narrow passage - opposite the "old market" toward the fruits and vegetable market in San Fernando La Union.
To make a long story short - i am here since 2000 and this one shop - pc4me - appeared to be the only professional shop for a one in all stop purchase, for all needed accessories, counseling, software, ... i got all, exactly how and what i wanted ... and - he wanted to have my last Toshiba laptop, this one still in absolute perfect condition but steadily requiring additional cooling - for his wife he said, later i saw him working himself with it - in an air conditioned room safely cool - as he knows my concerns about overheating !
Many times i have been there - got help and advice more than from any other place in the Philippines. I have learned that to find a good all-round dealer with full service its well worth to travel a few hundred kms ! I have a special mini-cd i use since years - for the Cyberspace Ashram MINI-CD "spiritual treasures" - sometimes i had to travel many hundreds kms just to get another few dozen. Here at pc4me i can get all now - and if anything is out of stock - their business links to major suppliers, manufacturers and whole seller is excellent and within 2-5 working days anything needed is available.
