The fact that other business, including rich businesses in the Philippines, pay wages below legal minimum wages does in NO WAY justify other business or hotels or all business to pay wages below legal minimum. The fact that some people or some government commit crimes against humanity never justifies others to commit crimes against humanity !
Paying legal wages is absolutely NO reason to be proud of - since even minimum legal wages never allow a nearly decent human life in the Philippines. Now with increasing prices for transportation and basic food such as rice even less than just a few months ago.
Paying below legal minimum wages is proof of extreme stinginess combined with excessive greed. Such behavior is reason to be ashame of, but never something to defend. I am fully aware that many foreigners and rich residents as well exploit poor ones as housemaid for far less than the a.m. salary. All humans have a right to be treated with dignity and all humans are entitled to conduct a life with all basic comforts needed to be happy. Hotels / Restaurants such as Hotel Restaurant Swiss Chalet never could exist without a few dozen local employees. Exploiting poverty for personal gain is deplorable and an utmost disgusting human behavior - practiced by millions - but in no way excusable, justifiable or explainable by the number of rich ones exploiting poverty for their personal gain.
When a Swiss owner such as in the case of Hotel Restaurant SwissChalet - Hans Hofmann - is involved in exploitation of poor ones by paying below legal minimum wages, the case is even far more serious than if other nationals do such. In Switzerland we have one of the finest school education and a wage system since many decades that allows absolutely all workers of any trade and any job to enjoy a decent life. In Switzerland we have a history free of slavery and exploitation for the past hundreds of years, hence a Swiss national is expected a far higher standard of human behavior and treatment of employees than many others who simply may lack human education and experience of freedom as a result of honest wages. In 40+ years of international experience, I have never met a Swiss displaying such abusive behavior and exploitation of his employees. The fact that African countries and many others still practice some kind of slavery never justifies such - even less when having enjoyed a human and scholar education in Switzerland such as is the case for Hans Hofmann owner of Swiss Chalet!
Since this case is still an ongoing legal procedure, I prefer to no further comment on the subject of Hotel Restaurant Swiss Chalet until all legal proceedings are closed!
