Hottest time of the year - coldest months of the year - dry season and rainy season in the Philippines

When visiting the Philippines - keep in mind that you are visiting a tropical country near the equator - twice a year the sun is vertcal up in the sky ... once it is around April / May - resulting in the hottest weeks of the year in the Philippines - no clouds by the end of the dry season, blue sky and the sun vertically up ....

Hottest weeks of the year

the hottest weeks of the year are the weeks before rainy season begins, i.e. approximately from mid April until mid May with temperature above 30-35 degrees Centigrade day and night - at sea level.

the period of time between dry and rainy season is a time often with hours or days near zero wind. change of season means change in direction of prevailing winds and thus a period with no breeze to cool. such missing slight breeze instantly let's all appear much hotter. we are spoiled here - most of the time all year long, we have at least a light breeze of fresh air arriving from the ocean.

then as the rain slowly starts during second half of May it is getting more and more cloudy at least part of the day and thus temperature drop a few degrees. Water temperature during summer months is high around 27 - 29 degrees Centigrade and a few degrees colder by December/January.

Coldest time of the year

Coldest time of the year are the weeks from mid December until end of January with temperature day and night slightly below 30 degrees C.

these temperatures are at sea-level. as soon as you climb up to altitude temperature drops. high altitude like Baguio city are several degrees below sea level temperature year round. In addition rainy season in the mountains may give you days or weeks of non-stop rain from light rain to poring rain - while at sea level a typical rain may last from half an hour to a few hours, then you may often enjoy blue sky minutes after a heavy tropical rain ends.

during rainy season all tourist places have low season - that means prices may be up to 50% lower than peak season prices in some areas. all dry season usually is considered peak season.

Begin and end of rainy season / dry season varies from island to island by up to a few weeks. however - rainy season may be very enjoyable if you love nature. during rainy season all nature grows and greens and starts to blossom or to prepare for blossom by the end of the rainy season. energy and air is fresher and more vibrant during rainy season and still plenty of tropical sunshine.

specially in the early weeks of rainy season mid to end of May after a rain all air often is filled with a magic fragrance of tropical flowers

rain can be heavy at times - so heavy that roads may be flooded and traffic slowed down or blocked for a few days in certain areas.

Wind ... storms - hurricanes - taifuns ... in the Philippines

here in the Philippines most call a nice wind already taifun - while a typical windsurfer would just start to think about getting ready for a ride in the wind and the waves - wind force seldom exceeds Bft 4-5 during rainy season, very rarely Bft 6-7 except if you really are caught in one of the dozen or so annual twisters :-) with the exception of a few special locations - such as Boracay island - Philippines - there is no wind for windsurfing even in "stormy" season during rainy season !!

during dry season windforce usually is between Bft 0 to max Bft 2-3 and only a few times a month a little higher. the ocean here is "flat" all year round compared to many other seas of the globe.

enjoy all tropical seasons of the Philippines - each season has its special flavor of joy and natural surprises. one months into rain all nature looks more pretty and more tropical - more like paradise on earth !

Rainy season - dry season - begin and end

typically seasons are:

  • dry season from mid/end November - mid/end May

  • rain season from May - November accordingly

enjoy

love and bliss
