Sagada is known for its hanging coffins, head hunters and cannibals until just decades ago - but also for its most delicious and year round available Sagada oranges and truly delicious juicy, tasty Passionfruits. The rice terraces are much smaller and by very far less carefully maintained than Banaue rice terraces.
All in all - let's the pictures below speak rather than many words. You'll see that we have a totally different mentality from local native population here as opposed / compared to Banaue. The forests are dry, often burned to easy logging. Burnt trees die. then are cut and used for firewood or furniture. There is almost no hardwood in this area. Most of the trees are pine trees - hence softwood with fast growing and fast rotting lives. Easy to grow and of limited value compared to long lasting, slow growing rain forest with tropical hardwood. Hills and mountains are dry and nearly empty - often desert like versus the lush green hills, mountains and village neighborhood in Banaue. Water exists of course - but there is no watermanagement by farmers during the past milleniums.
To compare the landscape and vegetation of Sagada region with Banaue, keep in mind that the photos for both locations have been made during the same days - in the middle of dry season. One nearby region manages to keep all green and clean all year round - while the other neighboring region is nearly desert like with minimal green growth and no water management at all.

Sagada tradition - burning forests
Burnt trees die, a lazy and most destructive method of harvesting wood. |
|
Sagada burning forests for logging - all nature is killed
Such methods of nature destruction show how little the native population honors God's nature and God's gifts to mankind. |

Much of the surrounding forests are violated by fire. |
