About 1,80 meter high rice plants in a rice field surrounded by jungle. This are by far the tallest rice plants I have ever seen anywhere.
In Cambodia in general all rice plants are stronger and taller than inn the Philippines and all other countries I have seen so far. That is because almost all rice fields are mixed with wild jungle or jungle like wild growth. Such wild growth directly surrounding your plantation is like herbal medicine for any culture properly done. Wild nature and jungle keeps the soil healthy and well balanced as well as all plants strong and free of any illness or insects.

A small lily pond belongs to each house in Cambodia. Some smaller like this one - some much larger with water lilies and lotus flowers. Peak water flow during rainy season. This is the larger of the 2 waterfalls at Phnom Kulen. While most other waterfall pictures available apparently have been made during tourist season, thus during low water dry season. I am lucky to have the waterfall steaming at peak water level. The best photography season for all nature pictures in Cambodia always is rainy season. However you need weeks and months time to wait for the few blue sky days for best nature pictures.

We approach the waterfalls - soon to come pictures - and see the steaming water droplets in the air like in a steam bath. I expected water droplets to be in the air and protected my camera like I would do in other major waterfalls I have visited ( Rheinfall, Victoria falls ) but all the water droplets turned into steam by the power of the tropical hot sun. The beauty of jungle comes from its untouched wild growth and huge variety. Vegetation grows and "blooms" as soon as mankind stays away. Cambodia enjoyed difficult access to many of its remote regions, thus the beauty of jungle remained intact until mankind arrived with machines to create roads to transport timber for profit making short time business. Cambodia is just another disposable "victim" of global money making politics. In favor of a few ones, at the expense of all mankind on earth.

Such extreme healthy nature as shown here on this picture was once common also in Europe and most other countries on this planet. The destruction of jungle and forests all around the world is but a result of our excesses in life, our wasteful and abusive handling of natural resources and our attempts to control nature, to master nature, to exploit nature or simply to destroy nature for profit or to replace nature with over-sized houses, oversized homes and polluting profit oriented industries.
When I was a tiny kid, all forests in Switzerland were almost like jungle ...
Now we have more money, more cars, more TVs - TVs are important, they can be used to replay on National Geographic memories from ancient times when we still had nature on our planet and around our homes. Myself however I rather enjoy real nature without TV. Skin to skin with nature.
To enjoy the beauty of flowers, the exotic lotus or sceneries and landscapes - we also need clean and beautiful surroundings. No flower truly is beautiful amidst trash and junk or dust. No lotus flower can display its full beauty when growing in a polluted dirty quarrel or dirty lotus pond. No human looks beautiful when living on a junkyard. Light conditions for jungle photography are very difficult and demanding for the camera. Inside jungle it is very dark, while outside we have bright powerful tropical sun and hot humid / steaming climate.

Most of my jungle pictures have either been made from a jungle path or from alongside a jungle river or from an elevated point above the jungle roof.

Directly inside the jungle is no way to walk or even make pictures except where people have already created a path by cutting branches and climbing plants by machete.

Of course people have been living inside and with jungle for thousands of years and thus in many spectacular areas such as Phnom Koulen there are enough natural jungle paths to get a few beautiful jungle pictures for you. Jungle in Cambodia is one of my favorite nature scenery photo work place.

Mid rainy season offers the most beautiful lush green nature colors of fresh growing tropical vegetation. The soft hills in the lower part of the island are covered with a variety of palms and fruit trees along with lots of wild vegetation. The high island mountains are covered with dense beautiful jungle. Mindoro still has lots of life and vegetation to be discovered. Beautiful plant growth and bushes along a jungle river. Tropical islands offer wonders of natural beauty - sceneries that create a WOW again and again when I see such beautiful vegetation along clean rivers of the Philippine islands. Such clean nature scenery was common inn Europe as well just some 50 years ago. Tropical nature is full of surprises - rain can poor shortly after blue sky. Dark clouds build up on mountainous islands within far less than half an hour. Without water no life, hence rain always is a blessing. A crystal clear shallow river just outdoor of your own small island farm ? Imagine you live in that small island farm on the hill above the river! No bath tub but a daily bath in fresh clean water flowing from high tropical mountains right in front of your home ...

A river too warm for much life. Beautiful nature scenery. A few days ago I was walking up this river on a hot and beautiful day. When thirsty I drank the clear river water ... and am still alive! Can you drink the water of your river outside your home and survive ? This island river is crystal clear year round, even during rainy season as you see now. Limited fish life due to hot water temperature. An invitation to take a bath to refresh your body.
Water of natural clean quality - drinking quality. Hundreds of years ago most European rivers have been clear and clean like this tropical island river. Thanks to our "industrial progress" normal rivers no longer are of drinking quality but rather highly toxic loaded with industrial waste and sewage.
A truly simple life fully integrated into nature rather than imposing ourselves onto nature could revers the destruction of industrial countries.
