Who says that you need a Laundromat if you can do the very same for free with friends ?
Washing by hand still is done by Billions of people. Of course it is work, but also preserves the planet, reduces energy waste and global warming. If you can do your daily work free of time pressure, with friends while chatting or discussing peacefully with best friends and loved ones, then any kind of work always is fun.
Whether or now work is fun only depends on whether you see a reason and have a motivation to work. To work for your family, to work to maintain your state of independency and free life in nature is for most motivation enough to be happy even in most simple living condition.
BTW:
I do handwash since nearly 11 years ... more or less each day!
In village life - the water source is a typical place to hang out and chat with friends while washing. In true village life the key difference compared to city life is that all village population knows each other - all are one family, here for each other - to help, to share, to be available for all friends any time day and night when needed - always just a call or walk away. One for all - all for one.
