Island population lives from the rich resources the ocean and island nature offers and exchanges the most valuable resources and sea food against the few things needed. Hence here and there a fisherman may have a boat for transportation of supplies or visitors of the islands.
Boating often is family business - sons start early to join their father and usually are excited to be allowed aboard father's boat. Hence young men learn early to do practical and useful work to survive in life.
