To see the quality after a few more weeks of experience with the Sony SC P10 - you may see some of the wallpapers made as well as a recent documentation about Baguio city or the most recent documentary from the honeymoon island Boracay - color rendering in the example of angel girls fashion on Boracay island - Philippines.
Below is the description i made after the first few day. NOW month later i gained additional experience and enjoy using my Sony DSC P10 even much more. Would i buy the very same camera gain NOW today ? YES !! is there a single feature i miss ? NO !! My Sony SC P10 has just absolutely everything i need now and in the foreseeable future.
The below pictures are the pictures from the first several day - i made all with the lowest resolution 640x480 because i failed to read the manual :-))
NOW i make all present pictures with the highest resolution and reduce them in size as needed later on. A full resolution picture is 2592 x 1944 pixels and usually has about 2.2 MB in file size. Almost all current ( new ) pictures for the various documentation of the Cyberspace Ashram are now made with all the newest settings and additional experience with this fine Sony DSC P10 camera.
I repeated attempt to use the Linux tool gphoto and gtkam has failed to recognize my Sony DSC P10 despite the fact that that precise model exists in the list of recognized cameras
however
i have stopped such attempts as the camera when plugged into power and connected to the USB port is easily recognized as a USB memory stick and all photos can be read, copied or moved to my laptop. that's all i need and want. no further need for any other tool. Hence use of the Sony DSC P10 with Linux is perfectly fine
The selection of this camera to be used to create some documentary pictures for this web site was made on the basis of various reviews written. however little facts were known before actually testing and using this small lightweight camera. Another important factor to select was my previous experience in 1999 with a Sony Mavica a very fine quality camera i enjoyed very much as well as the fact that this Sony camera comes with Zeiss lenses -Zeiss optics - one of the finest on the entire world wide photo market !
I purchased this digital camera in Baguio city @ Uni Com - Session road - just opposite Bruno's "Swiss Deli", my preferred Swiss deli restaurant in Baguio city. Uni Com - is a fine computer and computer accessory store with a really wide selection of accessories that i use for my demanding supply of professional accessories to maintain the Cyberspace Ashram and .. of course they have since long time many fine digital cameras on stock and available at honest prices. Since more than a year i was looking again and again at their various models - one day all factors were perfect and funds available, hence i came from La Union up to Baguio city for a day trip to pick the Sony DSC P10 i choose the days before as a result of comparison of all comparable digital cameras of all known manufacturers.
When selecting a camera model - of course you have made some serious research and acquainted some in depth knowledge about photography and technical requirements needed to meet you own needs. Having done so myself, it was obvious that the default memory stick will be far too small - hence i offered a trade in - the default 32 MB stick against a 256 MB memory stick just for the difference of the price. The dealer accepted - and both are happy now.
A digital camera of that quality of course has pictures of below average file size - 150 KB +/- per picture seems to be normal. With all functions switched on, one set of battery-charge lasts for approximately 90 minutes - hence in action environment or during travel, such as i do frequently - up to several hundred pictures per battery charge can be made. Video clips of several seconds have a size of approximately 5-6 MB. For such conditions a memory stick of 256 MB appears to be ideal up to 1 GB memories are available - of course you would also get one or several additional rechargeable battery packs if planning such high quantities of pictures to be taken.
So you can easily figure out that the default memory stick never will satisfy professional requirements but of course very easily can fully satisfy normal requirements.
To make my review short - best is to look at below pictures. This is the result of my first 4 photo learning sessions. Further improvements are certainly possible as i improve to handle this fine camera better. All i needed to improve my first session was to really have a look into the very detailed operating instructions ! I recommend you do the very same as there are too many options and adjustments possible to do it all by intuition only ... after a many decades lasting intense life of travel and high tech work, this was the very first time i appreciated a brief glimpse into the operating instructions :-).
The camera comes with a software that allows automatic download of all pictures as soon as connected via USB cable to a PC. All use of the camera and installation of software is easy and accurate and fully meets or exceeds my expectations and requirements.
More technical review details may be added as i progress in using this fine Sony digital camera.
