This second group of butterfly wallpapers is from the Philippine mountains

Mountain butterflies in the Philippines are very different from those down on or near sea level. Above all I noticed a much larger number of butterflies in the mountains. The below butterfly photos have been taken in or around Baguio City and in some area I encountered an abundance of wild butterflies. Abundance almost like in the Butterfly garden with up to a dozen on a small are of 2-3 sqm. Most of the mountain butterflies that come in large quantities are very tiny - around 1 cm wing-span. In the mountains the butterflies tend to be all of gentle bright colors, while at sea level I encounter far more larger butterflies and mostly darker colors.

Some of these abundant tiny butterflies are hard if at all to photograph. first of all they hide in the grass or in bushes - often many minutes without flying, hence invisible . while others are flying continuously without settling down on a blossom, The behavior of butterflies varies very much from specie to specie, while some are very slow - even love to be on human body for minutes - others may mostly fly and if on a blossom then only for a second or so ... too short to take pictures. Hence butterflies are first of all made to be enjoyed directly rather than on a picture. Butterflies are cute and some apparently love to be photographed for extended periods. Like girls - some butterflies sit on a blossom or leaf and pose for pictures while turning slowly around ... looking at you

A true butterfly paradise - Mindoro island

The most exotic and most colorful butterflies so far seen in the Philippine islands are on Mindoro island. Most of them are too fast to be photographed - at least during my brief visit on the island. I found a large variety of bright colored butterflies along the small tropical river. Hidden in the many flower-fields and the rich blossoming nature are large butterflies of 10cm and larger as well as many small butterflies 1-2 cm in size.
